Vision Project 2011

Transportation Vision Project Overview

The Transportation Vision Project was a year-long effort conducted in 2011 to develop a long-term vision and implementation plan for the transportation system across the Spokane region. The process looked at existing plans and policies regarding transportation; community values; patterns of physical, economic and social development for the region; and the needs of the community.

The project utilized a series of outreach efforts including public meetings and discussions, an online game and telephone survey to gather input about the public’s vision for the regional transportation system and what it will take to reach the envisioned future.

Consulting firm MIG, Inc., out of Portland, OR., was hired to lead this study, assisted by several sub-contractors and various SRTC staff members.

There were two key products of this process; the Vision and Implementation Strategy document includes a series of recommendations and suggestions to meet the identified vision.  Draft recommendations from the study include overarching suggestions such as further integrating transportation and land use planning, focusing investments to position the region for economic growth and working together as a region to make the identified vision a reality. The Vision Process Summary Report provides detail about the public outreach efforts used during the course of the Transportation Vision Project.

To oversee the process, a team of area business, elected and community leaders was formed to meet on a regular basis to provide direction to the study team and review study results.  The Vision Process Team included members from the following community institutions, businesses and agencies:
